Cloud Storage
A Firebase Storage browser beside your Firestore data
Browse your project's Cloud Storage buckets, preview images and text, download, upload, copy between projects, and bring back files that were deleted, with the same project rules and audit log as your documents.
Why here
Files and the documents that point at them, together
Most apps keep a document in Firestore and its photo, invoice or upload in Storage. Firetool puts Storage under each project in the sidebar, next to its collections and Authentication, so you can check a file a document refers to without switching to the console.
What you can do
Everyday Storage work, from one window
Browse and preview
Every bucket of the project, Firebase's own first; folders, sizes, types and dates; a file's details and custom metadata, with previews of images and text. Copy gs:// path or the download URL. Free in every edition.
Download and upload
Download a file to where you choose, or upload several at once, up to 200 MB each; a file with the same name is replaced only after Firetool asks.
Copy between projects
Copy selected files or a whole folder to a bucket in another project. Google copies them bucket to bucket, so nothing passes through your computer.
Bring back deleted files
Show deleted lists what the bucket's soft delete still keeps (7 days by default), with Restore. Versions… lists a file's older versions when the bucket keeps them.
Safety
The same rules as your data
Uploads, deletes, copies and restores are changes: a project marked read-only refuses them, a Viewer can only browse, a production project asks for its project ID before deleting several files, and every change goes in the audit log with the file's gs:// path. Downloads follow your export rules.
Questions
Firebase Storage in Firetool: common questions
Does browsing Storage cost Firestore reads?
No. Listing files and previews are Cloud Storage requests, which Google bills separately, and they don't count in Firetool's documents-read number.
Does it work with the Storage emulator?
Not yet. Storage works with real projects; the Firestore and Authentication emulators are supported.
What do I need for it to show my buckets?
A Google account with access to the project's Cloud Storage, such as the Storage Object Viewer role to browse and Storage Object Admin to upload and delete.
Can I edit the Storage security rules too?
Yes. Choose Security rules… and the Storage tab: pick the bucket, check the rules and deploy them.
