Privacy policy

Last updated 30 September 2026 (My account on this website; data from your Google account). Applies to the Firetool desktop app (from this website or the Microsoft Store) and to firetool.in.

Who we are

Firetool is made by G Balakrishna, in India. For anything about your data, email privacy@firetool.in.

Your Firestore and Firebase data

Firetool connects to your Google Cloud and Firebase projects with your own Google sign-in or service account key, and sends requests only to Google's APIs (googleapis.com) over HTTPS. Your documents, Authentication users, keys and Google sign-in never go to us or to anyone else.

If you turn on the policy option that copies the audit log to Firestore, a summary of each change (your computer's user name and name, the Google account used, the documents changed and the reason given) is written to a collection in your own project.

Data from your Google account

When you choose Continue with Google in the app, Google asks you to let Firetool see your email address and see, edit, configure and delete your Google Cloud data (the cloud-platform permission). Firetool needs it to list your projects and to read and change your Cloud Firestore data, composite indexes and Firebase Authentication users, which is what you ask it to do. The app uses it only on your computer, only for the actions you choose, and sends the requests straight to Google. The Google sign-in is saved on your computer, encrypted, and is never sent to us or anyone else; Sign out in the app removes it, and you can also remove Firetool's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Firetool's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use Google user data for advertising, don't sell it, don't let people read it, and don't use it to train AI or machine-learning models.

Downloading from this website

You download with Download now, without giving a name or email. With your download we keep:

• that you accepted this policy and the licence agreement;
• which version and system you downloaded, when, and how many times;
• where you came from, if the link told us (for example LinkedIn) or you said;
• your browser's user agent (its name, version and operating system) and a scrambled form of your network address (a salted one-way hash, not the address itself), to stop automated download requests and spot misuse;
• if you downloaded with Email me the link, which this page offered until 29 September 2026: the email address, your name if you gave it, and whether you asked for news about Firetool (Firebase Authentication, a Google service, which sent the confirmation link, keeps the address too).

We use an email you gave us (for a download, the trial or a licence) to keep a record of who uses Firetool and to tell you about important updates or security fixes. We send news, such as new features, only if you ticked the box for it.

The Microsoft Store

If you install Firetool from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the listing, installation and updates under Microsoft's privacy statement. We don't receive your name, email or Microsoft account from the Store; Microsoft gives us only overall figures such as the number of installs. The Store copy doesn't check this website for updates.

Pro trial and licence

Each computer gets a 30-day Pro trial. To give one trial per computer, and to let a licence work for one person on one computer, the app works out a device ID: a one-way hash of your computer's installation ID and your operating-system account's ID (the IDs themselves are never sent). When the trial starts, when you activate a licence, and once each time the app opens, it sends the trial or licence, that device ID, your computer's name, the operating system and the app version.

From version 2.21, each time Firetool opens (at most every 10 minutes), we also keep a small record for that device ID, whichever edition you use: when it first and last opened, the app version, the operating system and whether it came from the Microsoft Store. No name or email is in it. We use it to count how many copies are installed and in use, and how many use the Free edition, a trial or a licence.

From version 2.20 the trial starts with your email address: we email a 6-digit code to confirm it (only a scrambled form of the code is kept, and it's deleted after 15 minutes) and keep the email with the trial, with whether you asked for news. We use it to send a welcome email, reminders 7 days and 1 day before the trial ends, and news only if you ticked the box. It also allows one trial per email.

For a licence we keep your name, email, the licence key (encrypted, so we can email it to you again), the devices it's used on (device ID, computer name, system, app version, dates) and a log of activations and moves. We email you the key when it's issued and whenever you ask for it with Email me my key.

My account

You can sign in on this website to see your trials, licences, orders and messages. You sign in with a 6-digit code we email you (only a scrambled form of the code is kept, and it's deleted after 10 minutes). There's no Google sign-in on this website, so we never receive anything from your Google account here.

We keep your account in Firebase Authentication (a Google service) and a profile with your email, the name, company and GSTIN you enter, whether you asked for news, and when you joined and last signed in. My account shows the records we already keep for your email (described on this page); it doesn't collect anything more about you. Your sign-in is remembered in your browser's local storage for 7 days, or until you sign out; Sign out everywhere ends it on every browser.

Update checks

A copy downloaded from this website checks for a new version when it opens and every six hours, unless you or your IT team turn this off. The check sends only the app's version and your operating system and processor type. If you choose Update now, the app sends your name and email through the same download process as the website; you can let it remember them on your computer, encrypted, for the next update.

Messages and licence requests

When you use the Contact page or Request a licence (on the website or in the app), we keep your name, email, company if given, your message, a scrambled form of your network address and your browser's user agent. From the app we also keep its version, your system and computer name. We note whether you've downloaded Firetool and how many licences you have, to answer you. You get an email confirming we received it.

Emails we send

Sign-in links come from Firebase Authentication. Codes, licence keys, replies and confirmations are sent from noreply@firetool.in through our email provider (GoDaddy); replies go to support@firetool.in. Our emails show the Firetool logo from this website, so opening one loads that image from here.

On your computer

The app keeps its settings, service account keys, licence, scheduled exports, policy, audit log and log file in a .firetool folder in your user folder (called .firestore-studio before version 2.21: Firetool moves it the first time it opens). Service account keys, the licence and remembered update details are encrypted with your operating system's key store (Windows DPAPI, macOS Keychain or the Linux keyring) where one is available. The audit log holds copies of documents and users before each change, so they can be restored; it stays on your computer unless you turn on copying to your own project. The app has no telemetry or crash reporting, and the Diagnostics report is shown to you, never sent.

Cookies and browser storage

This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or analytics. If you sign in to My account, your browser keeps your sign-in in local storage until it ends or you sign out. If you open a download link we emailed you earlier, your browser remembers your name, email and chosen system until the download finishes, then clears them. Where you came from is remembered only for that browser tab.

Where it's kept and who sees it

Everything we keep is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) in the Mumbai, India region, and sent through Google's services as described above. Only the developer can see it. We don't sell it, rent it or share it with anyone else, except where the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

Download, trial, licence and message records are kept until you ask us to delete them, so trials stay one per computer and licences can be restored. Short-lived counters that limit repeated requests stop counting after two hours to a day. Details waiting for you to confirm your email are removed once you download.

Your choices

• To see, correct or delete your details, email privacy@firetool.in. Deleting a licence or trial record ends that licence or trial.
• To stop news emails, reply to any of them or write to us.
• You can turn off update checks in the app (Settings), and uninstalling the app removes its program files; your .firetool folder stays until you delete it.

Children

Firetool is a tool for developers and businesses and isn't meant for children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top. For a significant change, we'll email people who have downloaded Firetool.
