AI assistant and MCP

An AI assistant for Firestore that asks before it changes anything

Ask about your Firestore data in plain words, or connect the AI assistant you already use through MCP. Firetool does the reading, shows every step, and nothing is written until a person approves it.

Why

Questions about your data, answered from your data

"How many orders are still open?", "Which users signed up last week?", "Do all products have a price?" Answering means finding the collection, its fields, the right filter and a count. Firetool's AI assistant (new in 4.0) does those steps through the same reads you would make, tells you each one, and answers in a sentence or a small table. When something should change, it writes a proposal you can check, not a change you have to undo.

Ask in plain words

Open the assistant with Ctrl+I on the project you're looking at. It lists collections, looks at a collection's fields, queries and counts, and shows each step with how many documents it read.

Changes wait for you

When you ask for a change, it proposes one. AI assistant changes shows each document as it is now beside the change; Approve and write writes them together or not at all, through your roles and production rules.

Your own key, your consent

The assistant runs on your own Anthropic API key, kept encrypted on your computer. Before anything is sent, Firetool tells you what will be sent and asks you to agree.

One project, nothing to us

It works only on the project of the tab you opened it from, and sends straight from your computer to Anthropic. Hide personal data masks emails and phone numbers first.

Bring your own assistant (MCP)

The firetool mcp command lets any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol read your data through Firetool, only the projects you tick, with no keys of its own.

Every call recorded

Each read and proposal is in the audit log, and an approved change is marked as the assistant's, so you can always see what an AI looked at and what it changed.

How it works

From a question to an approved change

Ask

Open a collection, press Ctrl+I and ask. The first time, agree to what is sent and add your API key.

Watch it read

The assistant counts, samples fields and queries through Firetool; each step and its result are listed under the answer.

Approve or reject

If it proposes a change, review it in AI assistant changes. Nothing is written until you approve, and a document changed in the meantime is never overwritten.

Questions

AI and Firetool: common questions

Can the AI assistant change my Firestore data?

Not by itself. It can only propose changes, and a person approves them in Firetool's window. Approving follows the same roles, read-only and production rules and audit log as any change, and writing needs Pro.

What does it send, and where?

Your questions and what it reads to answer them, for the open project only, from your computer to Anthropic with your own key. Nothing goes to Firetool's servers. The privacy policy has the details.

Can I use the assistant I already have?

Yes, if it supports MCP. Turn on AI assistants (MCP) in Settings, tick the projects it may read, and add the firetool mcp entry Firetool shows to your assistant's settings.

Does it cost extra?

Asking questions works in the Free edition. Your Anthropic account is billed for the assistant, and Firestore bills the documents it reads, as for any read.
